BAFE – Promoting Quality In Fire Safety

Featured

Established in 1984, BAFE is the independent organisation dedicated to improving standards in fire protection. BAFE is the not for profit, registration body for Companies who achieve third party certification for their fire protection services. Companies who are registered to BAFE schemes demonstrate a commitment to service excellence.

If you require fire protection services for your premises then you need BAFE to be sure that the companies who provide them meet all the appropriate standards and are independently audited. BAFE third party certificated schemes are a recognised measure of the quality required to provide fire protection services.

What is CCTV?

Most people are aware of CCTV surveillance as it are widely used commercially and in the public sector – for example, in town centres, shops and on public transport – and often featured in the media. CCTV is an acronym for Closed Circuit Television: "closed circuit" as in an installation of directly connected components creating a circuit which cannot be viewed by anybody outside of the circuit, unlike a terrestrial television broadcast system which can be viewed by anybody with the appropriate reception equipment.

An obvious use for CCTV is to prevent crime and malpractice but it is also a valuable business management tool offering staff protection, supporting Health & Safety initiatives, aiding investigations, proving innocence and avoiding lawsuits; other examples of its use are help with production control and other observational objectives in factories where, for example, conditions are unsuitable for human intervention. It can be used a wide range of other applications, such as traffic surveys, keeping an eye on livestock and for monitoring wildlife activity, to name but few.

A happy client

We have received the below note from our customers Manor Farm Meats of Burcombe. We are sorry about the break-in and the resulting distress, but we thank them for their kind testimony. This sorry incident shows how important it is to have an alarm system installed before an incident occurs.

Our premises were broken into over the weekend. We called Wilton Alarm Systems. They carried out a site visit and survey to discuss our needs. The quote was then issued and bell box was installed on the front of the building – as an initial deterrent very promptly. The installation was completed in less than a week after the first phone call.

We are extremely pleased with the quick reaction and response of Wilton Alarm Systems. The break-in distressed us. We were given great piece of mind and are able to sleep at night knowing that our livelyhood and premises are protected.

Police response

The police will generally not respond to a bell only alarm, unless there is additional evidence of a crime being committed.  The police will respond to a confirmed alarm that has been passed to them from an Alarm Receiving Centre.  This can still be subject to their workload at the time, but their priority is far higher that with a ‘bells only’ system.  The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) publishes a code of practice relating to the Police response because of the growing problem of false alarms. If you opt for a monitored system you need to be aware of these rules relating to false alarms that we are obliged to record and liaise with the Police.

Alarm Systems – Information

Here is a short summary of all the items that are used in a Intruder and Fire Alarm Systems. We have separate pages explaining each system in greater detail. Please feel free to browse them.

CONTROL PANEL

The control panel is the main workings of the system. The main control panel will normally be sited in a concealed place such as in a cupboard or roof space.

Most systems are operated using a user code or PIN that is inputted into a keypad that is normally located in a convenient place, for example by the front door. It is also possible to have a system that is set and unset using a ‘tag’ or key-fob that can be attached to a keyring.

Why Choose a SSAIB Provider?

When it comes to protecting your home or business from the impact of crime you cannot afford to take any chances. Having a security systems provider that you can trust will ensure peace of mind for you and demonstrate to your Insurer that you have chosen to protect your home or business responsibly.

The SSAIB (Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board) only certificate companies who demonstrate competence in all areas of their business. Certified providers must also demonstrate technical competence and ethical conduct when it comes to providing alarm or security services for your home or business. SSAIB certification means that as a customer you can be confident in the quality of service provided to protect your home or business from the potentially devastating consequences of crime. Increasingly Insurers require evidence that all reasonable steps have been taken to mitigate risk and ensure the safety of both assets and personnel with the home and workplace. A SSAIB certificated provider will meet or exceed your Insurer’s requirements.
